Young, warm and a little mischievous. Meet Grace, the Bible Buddy companion built for the questions you'd type at 2am but never say out loud.

There's a kind of question that only ever gets typed, never spoken. You sit with it at some odd hour, open a search bar, and ask the internet the thing you'd never raise in a small group or put to your pastor after the service. Sometimes it's a doubt you're not proud of. Sometimes it's just something you suspect you should already know by now.

"What if my question is stupid?" is the thing people ask Grace most. Usually right before they ask the real one.

The questions people don't ask out loud

Faith spaces can be quietly intimidating. Everyone around you seems to have read more, believed longer, and settled things you're still turning over. So the questions go underground. You stop asking why there are four gospels that don't always line up. You stop asking whether it's allowed to be angry at God, because it feels safer to assume the answer is no.

None of those are stupid questions. They're some of the oldest questions there are, and the Bible itself is full of people asking worse.

Those questions just need somewhere to land. Most people have never had anywhere.

Who Grace is

Grace is young, warm and a little mischievous. She's the person you'd want to end up sitting next to at a dinner party, and she happens to know Scripture cold.

The thing that catches people off guard is how interested she is in them. Ask Grace something and she'll often ask you something back. Where did that question come from? What made you think of it tonight? She's curious about whoever is on the other side of the conversation, not only the verse on the screen.

Give Grace a passage that doesn't add up and she goes at it like a case. What's missing here. Who stands to gain. What was the writer looking at when he chose that particular word. She's as likely to reach for a film she loves as a commentary, and she'll pick the one you've already seen.

Honesty about doubt is already in the text, and it's a great deal older than any of us.

Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. (Mark 9:24, KJV)

That's a man asking for help with the gap between what he wants to believe and what he actually feels. Grace is built for readers standing in that same gap.

What it feels like to talk to her

Talking to Grace feels like talking to a friend, and that's the whole design. She's easy company, she teases a little, and she has never once made someone feel silly for asking.

A conversation with her tends to run something like this.

You: why does God feel silent sometimes

Grace: Because you're listening for a voice and the text keeps describing a whisper. 1 Kings 19, if you want the strangest version of it. Can I ask what the silence feels like on your end? Boredom, or something closer to being left?

You: the second one

Grace: Then start with Psalm 22, not Elijah. It opens with the exact accusation you're making. Want to read the first six verses together?

Notice what she did there. She answered, then she asked, then she changed her recommendation based on what you told her. You came in with one question and left holding a psalm nobody suggested to you.

She's also generous with her attention. Nothing you bring her is too small to be worth her time, and nothing is too big to say to her.

What Grace isn't

Grace is AI. Bible Buddy says this plainly, and so will she if you ask.

She's a Scripture reading partner. She isn't a pastor or a counsellor, and she can't stand in for a church community or a friend who knows your life. Some questions are worth bringing to a person who can sit across a table from you, and Grace will say so herself. What she's good at is the in between. The questions you're not ready to say out loud yet, the ones you want to think through before you take them anywhere else.

She also won't pretend the hard ones have tidy answers. Ask her about suffering and she'll be straight with you about what Scripture settles and what it leaves open.

One of five

Grace is one of five companions in Bible Buddy. Esther, Rebekah, David and Philip each bring a different voice and a different story, and you'll meet them as you go. Grace is just the easiest place to start, because starting is the part most people find hardest.

Why does God feel silent sometimes?

Where do I start reading if I have doubts?

Explain the armour of God like I've never heard it before.

You don't need a better question than that to begin.

Frequently asked

What is Grace in Bible Buddy?

One of the five AI companions in the app. Closer to a curious friend with an excellent memory for Scripture than to a study tool.

What is she like to talk to?

Warm, funny, and far more interested in you than you'll expect. She asks about as many questions as she answers.

Is Grace a real person or AI?

AI, and she'll say so the moment you ask. Bible Buddy doesn't blur that line, and neither does she.

Can I ask Grace questions about doubt?

That's most of what she gets asked. Bring it unpolished. She won't try to argue you out of it.

Is Grace a substitute for a pastor or church?

No. For anything that needs a person in the room with you, she'll say so and point you there.

How do I start talking to Grace?

Type the question you'd rather not say out loud. That's the one to open with.
